Remembrance Day

This year, Remembrance at Battle was very pertinent to children and adults at Glengorse.

Over the course of a whole-school assembly, children learnt about all those linked to their school building, who lost their lives due to conflict. The children have been learning a lot about the history of the old school, this assembly also explored the family that lived in the house during the late nineteenth century.  The children really engaged with the story of how the chapel was built as a memorial to former Glengorse School students, as well as learning something about the Talbot family.

At the end of the assembly, adults and children held a minutes silence to show their respect. In their art lessons across the week, children made Poppies which were made into a wreath. Thank you to Brad (owner of the Estate) for allowing us access to the chapel to lay the wreath.  This was very respectfully done by one of our children who is a member of the Army Cadets. All the adults were very impressed with how respectful all the children were throughout the assembly.

The children very much hope that you will explore the PowerPoint included here, that outlines the story of Captain Henry Lambert and the story of the Chapel that was built as a memorial, so that those who were lost, can continue to be remembered.

With thanks to Elizabeth Stainton for providing us with the Newsletters from which excerpts have been reproduced and the photographs.
