Dear Parents/Carers

Re: Heatwave Monday 18th July and Tuesday 19th July.

Monday 11.30 meet in school – some children to PowerGolf, Eastbourne for 1.00, normal collection time

Tuesday 11.00 meet in school – some children to Ninja Warrior, Eastbourne for 12.00, collection 2.00

The DfE (Department for Education) has recommended that schools remain open on Monday and Tuesday next week but if necessary have been given the flexibility to consider rearranging school start, finish and break/lunch times.

In light of the extreme hot weather warnings that have been given by the MET office for next week I wanted to inform you that I have produced a risk assessment as directed by the DfE. Monday 18th July and Tuesday 19th July incorporate off site activities, the main activities are in air conditioned buildings however the morning learning on both days had been planned to occur in parks and woods.

We propose that on Monday and Tuesday children have a later start/earlier finish where applicable.

  • Children will be allowed to wear appropriate shorts and t-shirts which will be cooler than their regular uniform
  • Hats can be worn outside but must be taken off when inside
  • Please ensure your child has a water bottle for hydration and sun cream
  • All rooms when in school are air conditioned

We anticipate that Wednesday 20 July will be a full school day as the weather is due to be somewhat cooler by then, we will of course keep you updated.
