Feb 04 2025For our GCSE we went to Battle High Street to map the types of shops there; do a pedestrian count and interview shoppers about their visit.
We asked them their age group, how far they had travelled and where they lived. We found that most people had come to meet friends for a coffee in one of the cafes and then they enjoyed looking around the shops. There were a large number of eateries but also a large number of hairdressers and barbers. Although there were some financial establishments we noted that many had closed as online banking has increased in popularity.
Most of the people we spoke to were of retirement age, although we met quite a few students from Battle Abbey School and at the other end of the High Street were mothers going to pick up their children from the local primary school. Some people in their 20’s to 40’s rushed past as they were obviously going to back to work or to meetings, so our data was slightly biased.
